  1. Really impressed with Kelco shampoos 5 Star Review

Posted by on 17th Mar 2017

I have been grooming for 13 years and fell in love with the Kelco Fresh Scent cologne when I first smelled it eight years ago at a new salon I was working at. A few years ago, I found the Shampoo Lady (and my cherished Kelco cologne!), so I decided to give the Kelco shampoos a shot.

I originally ordered Plum White, Bubble Neem and Coco Tar. Recently, I also ordered the Ultra M.D. (to accommodate the usual increase of skin problems our salon sees in the spring/summer.)

The Plum White smells absolutely amazing, lathers nicely at the suggested dilution rate, and is one of the most effective whitening shampoos I've ever used (probably second only to Chris Christensen whitening shampoos.) One of my Schnauzer customers wanted to know how I got her salt & pepper's white legs so stunningly white... Plum White was my secret weapon.

The Bubble Neem has pretty much become our all-purpose shampoo, ranking right up there with our other favorite: PPP AromaCare Fresh As A Daisy shampoo. The Bubble Neem has a minty fresh scent, penetrates the coat for a deep clean and quick rinse. It's also good for pets with sensitive skin, because of the natural ingredients and oils that don't irritate or strip already compromised skin or coat. Plus the scent is soft and light, so you don't have to worry about pet/customer reactions to heavy fragrances.

The Coco Tar that I ordered was actually meant for two of my own dogs (an Afghan Hound and Miniature Poodle), both of whom developed entire body yeast infections last spring... a problem I had only dealt with in clients' dogs, not my own. After my Afghan and Poodle had been completely #7/#10 stripped, I bathed them once a week for four weeks in the Coco Tar (mixed stronger than recommended dilution).... That, along with my homeopathic treatment approach, cleared up the yeast on both dogs. So I began using it on our severe skin cases we encountered at the salon. We had a handful of customers that could see results in 1 - 2 grooming sessions and they were specifically requesting it. Some people still were hellbent on the overpriced (and mostly ineffective) prescription shampoos from their vets. The Coco Tar scent is sweet and chocolatey (I really didn't expect that!!), it lathers generously (I always used it stronger than the general dilution rate) and rinses away clean.... gently cleansing the most thick, red, scaly, and damaged skin while still leaving a shiny, smooth coat.

I most recently ordered the Ultra M.D., since the Coco Tar had been so nourishing to my own dogs' skin conditions.... I was curious to see how the Ultra M.D. would treat the variety of skin conditions we see at our salon. Personally, I don't do back flips over the Ultra M.D. results. Yes, it's a good mild shampoo and prescription alternative. Its ingredients (tea tree oil, aloe vera, vitamin B) directly pinpoint numerous skin issues... it has worked quite well on some skin cases, while other cases have remained relatively unchanged. We most often use the Ultra M.D. with the Yuppy Puppy Bath Brush (received from Nicole Kane @ The Groomers Box) which has given us remarkable results. The Ultra M.D. shampoo is gentle and mild, with a faint (but not heady) eucalyptus-tea tree oil scent. Again, I mix it stronger than the 50:1 dilution rate (depending on the pet's individual needs) and it lathers well (not as generously as the other Kelco shampoos, but probably because it's an all-natural medicinal shampoo) and leaves the hair coat shiny and fluffy. I just personally am not a huge fan of the Ultra M.D., just because it works as well as other eucalyptus-tea tree oil type shampoos but doesn't stand out from other brands. I am curious to try the Ultra M.D. on our rescued Tennessee Walker gelding who suffers from frequent bouts of thrush and other foot ailments (the Ultra M.D. is supposed to be effective against equine hoof wall fungus)... it could change my mind if it works on his problem feet!

Overall, great natural shampoos with stand out scents you won't find anywhere else... results are always squeaky clean without compromising the texture and body of the hair coat. I have discovered now, as a true aficionado of Kelco shampoos... whatever it claims to do (whiten/brighten, skin problems, etc) it DOES. You will never be disappointed with the final result if you bathe with Kelco.

  2. My favorite cologne, hands down! 5 Star Review

Posted by on 17th Mar 2017

I have been grooming for 13 years and first encountered the Kelco Fresh cologne eight years ago, when I started working at a new grooming salon... the salon owner never re-ordered the Kelco cologne (to my disappointment) and just last year, I knew I needed that cologne in my life again! So I searched high and low before finding it here at The Shampoo Lady and have brought the Kelco Fresh cologne back to our salon, much to the delight of our clients. You know it's good when your customer picks up their pet and buries their nose in their freshly groomed pets coat and rave over how GREAT their furbaby smells.

The bright, slightly flowery fragrance mists on the coat very lightly but the scent is strong enough to last for over a week (per my own dogs as well as my customer feedback.)

As most pro groomers, I have tried out every cologne just to see what scent I personally like, what scent my customers seem to enjoy most, and just for the novelty of having different fragrances (I'm Bath & Body addict too.... lol)

Kelco Fresh is my favorite, without a doubt... and it will continue to be my go-to cologne for the rest of my grooming career.

  3. new to kelco 5 Star Review

The scent is addicting. It doesn't lather a whole lot but it doesn't have to. It works. I like the way it rinses so easily. Would highly recommend this product.

  4. Cocoa Tar is great! 5 Star Review

Posted by on 24th Nov 2015

Once I got it properly diluted, it has been perfect for my Havanese's coat. I initially bought it to help darken his lightened chocolate coat, but it was too difficult to rinse out (you put it on the coat dry and undiluted to darken) so now I just dilute it and put it on his wet coat and its a fabulous shampoo. Keeps his skin dry, but cleans very well.

I love this shampoo and have been purchasing it for many years to use on my CFA show cats.
Also great for routine bathing. They smell amazing and get the job done.
My order was shipped extremely quick!

I really like this for faces as it's tearless while I use something else on body.

Makes our Havanese's coat so soft and clean. Smells good too.

  9. Smells fantastic, Makes his coat very soft! 5 Star Review

Posted by on 18th Jun 2013

I LOVE this shampoo. Kelco usually does a great job with making my golden retriever's coat soft and shiny but now that we have filthy animal, he smells devine. He is able to go outside in the yard for hours and come back still smelling great instead of that polluted "outside" smell.
